He died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha. He was born June 4, 1930, in Dow City, Iowa, to Jesse G. Leslie and Clara Mitchell Leslie. Leslie, 77, of Fremont will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. He died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha. He was born June 4, 1930, in Dow City, Iowa, to Jesse G. Leslie and Clara Mitchell Leslie. He grew up in farm country and attended Dow City High School, graduating in 1948. Shortly after graduation he entered the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego. After serving four years, during the Korean War, he moved to Des Moines, Iowa, working for a TV repair service until he started with AT&T in 1956. He married Janice Hughes Cochran on June 3, 1961, in Omaha. They lived in Sioux City, Iowa, where he worked at the SAGE Building in Sergeant Bluff, on the Air Force base until 1964, when they moved to Fremont. He then worked at the AT&T tower in North Bend for many years. He moved to Minneapolis in 1976 where he was involved in the break up of MA Bell. He then went to Kansas City, Mo., for a two-year stint before returning to Fremont in 1984. He worked in Omaha before transferring to AT&T headquarters in Bedminister, N.J., where he retired from AT&T after 36 1/2 years in 1993. He returned to Fremont and after several months of retirement he got jobs at the Keno Club, mowed city parks and mowed the greens and fairways at Valley View Golf Course. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854, American Legion Post 20 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 20, all in Fremont. He also was a member of the Eastern Nebraska Senior Golf Association for many years and volunteered at the local food pantry. Survivors include: his wife, Janice Kae Leslie; two sons, Jesse “Glenn” Leslie (and wife, Karen) of Creswell, Ore., and Jim Leslie (and wife, Neyda) of Kenner, La.; three daughters, Julie Kehn (and husband, Jerry) of Milton, Wis., Karen Durbin (and husband, Mark) and Patti Abel (and husband, Rob), all of Springfield, Ore.; two sisters, Faye Chase of Dunlap, Iowa, and Alice Zeller (and husband, Dick) of Des Moines; two brothers, Paul Leslie of Las Vegas and Donald “Owen” Leslie (and wife, Geneva) of Urbana, Mo.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The Rev. Glenn Leslie will officiate Wednesday’ service. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont with military graveside services conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of VFW Post 854 and American Legion Post 20.
