Description	:	Jessie C. Fisher was the last of six children born to the Irish immigrant, Thomas Kirby, and his Indiana-born wife, Keziah Hendricks. Jessie was born at Drywood Township (near Ft. Scott) in Bourbon County, Kansas. Keziah Kirby died shortly after Jessie's second birthday, and Thomas next married Susan Goble. Thomas, a Civil War veteran with disabilities, died in August 1893. Orsino died unexpectedly at age 39 in 1939, leaving his widow and no children. Jessie remained in the dry goods business at Ft. Scott until around 1919, when she moved permanently to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. There she eventually went to work as a buyer and manager at Martin Dry Good Store. Jessie never remarried but was steadfastly involved in the Presbyterian church in Cedar Rapids. Death Notice Cedar Rapids Gazette Thursday, January 14, 1954 Page 2 "Mrs. Jessie Fisher - Jessie Fisher, 1400 Second avenue SE, manager of the lingerie department at Martin's and a Cedar Rapids resident for 35 years, died in a Cedar Rapids hospital at 7:50 a.m. Thursday following a brief illness. Surviving are a niece, Jessie Torrance of Los Angeles, and three nephews, George Plummer of Bishop, Calif., R.C. Torrance and K.E. Torrance, both of Seattle. Mrs. Fisher was a member of the Presbyterian church, Gethsemane White Shrine No. 1, and Cedar chapter, O.E.S. Services will be conducted in the Turner chapel at 10:30 a.m. Saturday by Dr. Theodore Lilley of the First Presbyterian church. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday."
