She was born on July 30, 1918 on a ranch near Fort Bragg. She graduated from Eureka High School in 1936, married Joseph Mitchell in 1939 and together they moved to Briceland. She was born on July 30, 1918 on a ranch near Fort Bragg. She graduated from Eureka High School in 1936, married Joseph Mitchell in 1939 and together they moved to Briceland. In 1942 they moved to Blocksburg where they raised their children, Donna Kay and Joseph, Jr. In their later years they moved to Fortuna. Jessie was a member of the Redwood Christian Fellowship Church. She was a wonderful person who loved people. She always had a smile on her face and always spoke well of others. Jessie had a positive outlook on life to the day she died. She loved her Savior Jesus Christ and was excited to go and meet Him face to face. She longed to see her husband and twin girls who went before her. She was the best grandmother and great-grandmother that anyone could ask for. She was loved very much by all who knew her and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her son Joseph H. Mitchell, Jr. of Fortuna; daughter Donna Kay Johnson of Fortuna; brother Dave James; grandchildren, Glenda Noel, Lisa Kendall and Renee Plumley; great-grandchildren, Gillyanne, Laura, Beth and Kevin Noel; Ethan Kendall; Lindsey Arnold; Bobby Dawn and Sharon Plumley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred M. James and Bessie Ann Caldwell; husband Joe H. Mitchell and twin daughters; sister, Ruby Gallaway and brothers, William James and Irvin James. The family wishes to give special thanks to Margaret Evans and Hospice of Humboldt. Interment will be at Ocean View Cemetery, Eureka, on Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at 2 p.m. with casket bearers being James Boyett, Merlin Goodwin, Sr., Merlin Goodwin, Jr., Gary Goodwin, Glen Johnson, and Leon Noel. Friends are invited to the memorial service at the Hydesville Church, Hydesville on Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at 11 a.m. with Pastors Michael Delamarian and Bob Hatgood officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Mortuary Chapels/Pierce Chapel, Eureka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Humboldt, Inc., 2010 Myrtle Ave., Eureka, CA 95591.
