Description	:	Jessie Ernest, son of Allen W. and Frances (Walker) Stevens, was born on a farm 2 1/2 miles north of Bentonsport, Iowa June 25, 1867. He was married to Cynthia Scott Feb. 28, 1887. To this union were born three sons and five daughters. His wife preceded him in death on June 5, 1905, and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Klise on Nov. 24, 1918. Stevens, Keokuk, Iowa; Theodore S. Stevens, Clarinda, Iowa; and Staff Sergeant J. Ernest Stevens, Fort Lewis, Washington. One sister, Cora Stevens, Farmington, Iowa; and one brother, E.E. Stevens, Hermosa, South Dakota. Also by twenty-one grandchildren and five great grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends. He lived in and near Bentonsport until twenty-six years ago, when he went to the mining country in the Black Hills of South Dakota, where he passed away Dec. 4, 1935 at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 9 days. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and Masonic services were held at Custer Sunday by the Hermosa Lodge, of which he was a Senior Warden. The body was brought to the little M.E. church at Bentonsport, Iowa, where the services were conducted by Rev. L.E. McCargar Monday afternoon at 3:15. He was laid to rest in the Bentonsport cemetery.
