Mrs. Grimes had been in her usual good health, to all appearances, when she was first stricken while sitting in her yard Wednesday evening. Death was due to a heart attack. Mrs. Grimes was born Jessie Wingate, Aug 21, 1878, in Wenona, Ill. Her girlhood days were spent at the place of her birth. She was married, in 1895, to H. O. Grimes, also a native of Wenona. Five years later Mr. and Mrs. Grimes came to Iowa, settling at Zearing. They made their home there until 1909, when they came to Marshalltown, and with the exception of eight years, spent at Minnesota Lake, Minn., they had made their home here since. Mr. and Mrs. Grimes were the parents of eight children. A daughter, Clara May, died in infancy. The seven children who with the husband survive, are Oliver, Claude and Burdette, of this city. Clifton, of Philadelphia, Pa., Lynn of Des Moines, and Helen and Harriet at home. Two brothers, Roy Wingate, Marshall, Tex. and C. S. Wingate, Hartshorne, Okla., and a sister, Mrs. Florence Taylor, of this city, and eight grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Grimes was a member of the Methodist church and of Sheridan post, W. R. C. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the Pursel funeral home, in charge of Rev. C. C. Bacon, pastor of the First Methodist church. Burial will be in the Zearing cemetery. From the Marshalltown Times Republican 15 June 1933.
