Great Falls Tribune (MT), 16 Jan 1900 Mrs. James Edgar Choteau, Jan. 12--The untimely death of Mrs. James Edgar, which occurred at Great Falls Monday, was a shock to the entire community as the seriousness of her ailment was not fully realized. She had been sick for several months, growing worse as the trouble developed, and about two weeks ago Drs. Cooper of Choteau, and Hill, of Great Falls, held a consultation and decided that an operation was the only course to permanent recovery. The patient was removed to the hospital at the Falls and an operation performed, but she was too weak to survive the effects and died 54 hours later. The remains were brought here for burial and the funeral held yesterday at the First M. E. church. The deceased's maiden name was Jessie Jeffrey. She was born in Roxburyshire, Scotland, in 1846, and when but a child immigrated with her parents to Canada, where in 1866 she was married to James Edgar. Shortly after their marriage they came to the United States, residing in various sections until 1896, when they located in Choteau, with their family. Mrs. Edgar was the mother of 15 children, 11 of whom are living and join their sad father in mourning the death of a dutiful and tolerant wife and a loving mother. Eight children reside in Choteau, while three are living in the east. Mrs. Edgar's life was an exemplification of Christianity in her own home, as well as in the community in which she lived.
