Description	:	Jessie Mae Jones Powell, the daughter of Gilbert B. and Jessie Inez Rugh Jones, was born on May 10, 1915, in Scotland County, Missouri. She graduated from Cantril High School in Cantril, Iowa in 1933. On April 20, 1946, Mae was united in marriage to Ernest Wayne Powell in Ottumwa, Iowa. She... Read More	Jessie Mae Jones Powell, the daughter of Gilbert B. and Jessie Inez Rugh Jones, was born on May 10, 1915, in Scotland County, Missouri. She graduated from Cantril High School in Cantril, Iowa in 1933. On April 20, 1946, Mae was united in marriage to Ernest Wayne Powell in Ottumwa, Iowa. They made their home in Ottumwa for 10 years, before moving to Dubuque, Iowa and then to Newton, Iowa in 1958. Mae worked for Jack & Jill’s children’s clothing store for 17 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Newton where she was a Deaconess and served on many committees over the years. Mae was a devoted and loving wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend. Mae died on December 18, 2002 at her home in Newton. She was 87. Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 49 years, Ernest, in 1996; 2 brothers, Glen Jones and Lynn Jones; a sister, Helen Vehslage; and a brother in infancy. Those left to honor her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Ronald Kleinschrodt of Angleton, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Margaret Powell of West Des Moines, Iowa; her 4 Grandchildren, Lori A. Holder and her husband, Jerry, of Pearland, Texas, Heather D. Parrott and her husband, Chris, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Bradford W. Powell of Arlington, Massachusetts, and Stephen W. Powell of Iowa City, Iowa; 3 Great-Grandchildren, Matthew Holder, Zachary Parrott, and Ryan Parrott; her 2 sisters, Marguerite McLeland of Memphis, Missouri and Minnie Decker of Kalona, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
