Description	:	They set sail in the spring of 1852. It took six weeks to cross the Atlantic Ocean and travelled on to Guelph where they secured smployment. They were going to work until they made enough money to continue on to Queen's Bush where they could chop out a home for themselves. Jessie and her spouse James Marshall and two sons James and Andrew settled on Lot 16, Con. 3 there was nothing but virgin forest. They lived in a hut at Lot 13, Con 2 until they built a log house on their own land. In the spring of 1855, James walked to Guelph which was 50 miles to work for the summer. Jessie and two sons stayed at home. While James was away Jessie heard someone at the door. When she opened the door she saw it was an Indian. He indicated by sign language that he was hungry. She made him a meal of whatever she could find in the house. A few days later the same Indian returned with a good part of a dressed deer. The Indians never caused her any harm. James came back that fall and hauled the dry timbers home that he cut last winter. He cut more timber for next fall until he had enough land cleared to produce a crop. James and Jessie had a family of four boys and four girls: Andrew McIlvride Marshall(m Janet Marshall daughter of Alexander(Sandy)Marshall and Mary Caldwell), James(m Susannah Gadd), John(m Ann Calder), William(m Agnes McVean), Margaret(m Fred Schrieber), Elizabeth, Annie, and Jessie(m Chas Ebenau) Annie and Margaret never married.
