Read More	Mrs. Jessie Sly passed away about 8 P. M. Wednesday, March 10th at the home of her Son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James D. Brown, at DeSota, Iowa. Jessie Roof , daughter of Edwin and Agnes Roof, was born at Albion, Calhoun County, Mich., March 9, 1861, and was 87 years and one day old at the time of her death. At the age of four years she moved to Batavia, Iowa with her parents and her home since has been in this state. She lived in the near Ottumwa, Iowa about 18 years, and at other places in Iowa and for about 3 ½ years she lived in Dallas county with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James D. Brown. She was united in marriage to Mr. Urius Sly in 1877. He preceded her in death in May, 1932 at Ottumwa, Iowa. To this union were born eleven children, two of whom died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Rosie Barnard of Corydon, Iowa, died in October, 1947. Surviving are eight children: Charley Sly (Schley), Waukee , Iowa, Frank Sly, Granger, Iowa, Agnes Brown, Desoto, Iowa, Edna Brewer, Bellflower, Calif., Riley Sly, address unknown, Oscar Sly (Schley), Excelsior Springs, Mo., Worley Sly, Kirkville, Iowa; Ray Sly of Honolulu. She leaves about 150 descendants; also one half sister, Rosie Crease of Lineville, Iowa; a half brother, Tom Peabody of Holly, Michigan; other relatives and a host of friends whom morn her passing. The body was taken to the Fisher Funeral Home at Van Meter where the funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, March 13 at 1 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. Floyd Newbough, pastor of the Community Methodist Church at DeSoto. Interment was in the cemetery at Waukee. Pallbearers were: Glen Brown, Glen Sly, Neil DePue, Darrell DePue, Date Miller and Lowell DePue. The two songs sung at the funeral services were Beautiful Isle and the Old Rugged Cross.
