Everything known to medical skill, including there blood transfusions, had been done in the vain attempt to save the life of this much beloved lady, and her many friends, as well as the sorrowing relatives, mourn her passing. She was born at Albany, Wisconsin, and after her marriage to Joel Hathaway in 1892, lived in Plymouth county for many years, a good part of the time in this immediate locality. She was a lovely woman, spirtiually, as well as physically beautiful, and gave freely of her lovely kindness to all worthy objects of community service as well as to her personal friends. After moving to Sioux City, Mrs. Hathaway became a living member of the Whitfield church and its affiliates, and at the time of her death, was secretary of one of the important organizations of women, the Three Score club. Funeral services were held from the church Monday afternoon and were attended by an unually large number of people who came to pay their respects to their friend and her grieving family. Services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. N. R. Price and two familiar songs, most touchingly rendered by two former Milnerville friends, Mrs. Ward Knapp and her sister, Miss Cloyce Hasbrook, comprised the music, with accompaniment by the church organist. The pallbearers were recruited from old friends who were boys and chums of her sons when she lived here. They were Bryan Dreezen, Alfred Hardy, Frank Mathwig, Howard Milner, Moybray Nason and Rellen Taylor. Interment was made in Logan Park Cemetery in the family plot. Surviving are three sons, Ralph and Walter, of Sioux City, and Harry of Hinton; four daughters, Mrs. Alice Lindgren, of Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Emily Smith, of Huron, S. D.; Mrs. Phoebe Brown, of Verndale, Minn., and Mrs. Florence Milner, of Merrill. She also leaves one brother, Walter Smith, of Broadhead, Wis., and sixteen grandchildren. With the exception of Mrs. Lindgren, whose health would not premit her to come, all of her children were in Sioux City at the time of her demise, and Hiram Smith's mother and aunt drove down from Minnesota, Monday, to attend the funeral. Mrs. Hathaway had visited in their home in company with her son-in-law and daughter last summer, we believe.
