On Thursday, December 6, 2018, our beloved mother, Jewel left us to go to her heavenly home. She was born February 13, 1919 in Pitkin to the union of Ellis West and Shrena Strother West. She loved God and even though her sight had failed, she loved hearing God’s Word. Jewel was a prayer warrior. Our mom’s Christian faith has impacted her children and grandchildren. We will cherish the memories of her as we were growing up. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Eugene Austin; one son, Claude Austin; her parents, Ellis and Shrena West; one sister, Tulius Thompson; two brothers, Clayton and Ray West. Those left behind to cherish her memory are: two daughters, Vera Austin companion Tommy Hodges of Oakdale and Elaine (Roger) Humphries of Forest Hill; she raised as her son, James (Christina) Watson of Glenmora; 6 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Pallbearers honored to serve will be Jesse Watson, Daniel W. Johnson, Rodney Thompson, Preston West, and Lloyd Thompson. Honorary pallbearer will be James Watson. Visitation will be held in the White Oaks Memorial Chapel on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., then on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 8 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. in the chapel. Thanks, cannot be said enough to Moses Bushnell with Guardian Hospice. He was such a wonderful nurse and made each of us feel special. We would like to also thank the workers and caregivers at Naomi Heights for the care, love and support she received while in their care. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to: St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas PL, Memphis, TN 38105.
