Description	:	Jewel Marlene Tompkins, daughter of Marvin and Gladys (Langager) Tompkins was born August 1, 1937 at Langford, SD. This is where she grew up and attended school graduating from Langford High School with the class of 1956. While she was in high school, she worked at the Langford Cafe. Jewel then moved to Aberdeen where she was employed at Aberdeen National Bank as a bookkeeper for nine years. Jewel was united in marriage to Floyd Esche on February 15, 1959 at Langford. Read More	Jewel Marlene Tompkins, daughter of Marvin and Gladys (Langager) Tompkins was born August 1, 1937 at Langford, SD. This is where she grew up and attended school graduating from Langford High School with the class of 1956. While she was in high school, she worked at the Langford Cafe. Jewel then moved to Aberdeen where she was employed at Aberdeen National Bank as a bookkeeper for nine years. Jewel was united in marriage to Floyd Esche on February 15, 1959 at Langford. She then started a daycare which she ran until the early 1970's. When 3M Company opened in Aberdeen, Jewel went to work there, retiring in 1999. Jewel enjoyed gardening, reading, word find puzzles and people watching. She found much joy in watching her grandchildren participate in athletics. She always looked forward to attending Northern State University athletic events and traveling with her senior friends. Jewel is survived by her children, Steve Esche of Aberdeen, Deb (Nick) Finnesand of Aberdeen, Cindy Babnick of Ft. Collins, CO and Roxanne (Mike) Moss of Aberdeen; one brother, James (Barb) Tompkins of Webster, SD; one sister, Karen (Jack Lape) Nichols of Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren, Jason Babnick, Nicole Finnesand, Hayden Finnesand, Shayle Finnesand, Jessica Moss and William Moss; one great-grandson, Devan Babnick and a special friend, Pat Beilke. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Floyd (1-29-1994) and one brother, Tom Tompkins. Funeral service was 11:00 am, Monday, July 28, 2014 at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Aberdeen. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm at the funeral home. Jewel died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at her home. Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.
