Description	:	From the Ottumwa Courier (August 7, 2007) OBITUARY FOR JEWELL BALLEW GARDNER, 92, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007 at Ottumwa Good Samaritan Center. She had lived at 117 S. Madison for 60 years before going to Ottumwa Good Samaritan Center. She was born Sept. 9, 1914 in Davis County to William Edgar and Ethel Mendehall Ballew. She married Merritt William Gardner in 1935 in Lancaster, Mo. He died Feb. 15, 1962. A 1933 graduate of Centerville High School, she was a member of First Church of God. Madison for 60 years before going to Ottumwa Good Samaritan Center. She was born Sept. 9, 1914 in Davis County to William Edgar and Ethel Mendehall Ballew. She married Merritt William Gardner in 1935 in Lancaster, Mo. He died Feb. 15, 1962. A 1933 graduate of Centerville High School, she was a member of First Church of God. She was a well-known seamstress who loved gardening and her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include one son, R. Gene (Mary Ann) Gardner of West Des Moines; three grandchildren, Lana Morrissey of West Des Moines, Lisa Gardner of Des Moines and Lance (Rhonda) of Ames; five great-grandchildren; and nieces; and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; and one brother, Raymond Ballew. Graveside services will be 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007 at Ottumwa Cemetery with Pastor Duane Marburger officiating. Open visitation begins 9 a.m. Wednesday at Robertson-Jay Funeral Home. Family will be present at the funeral home Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to Ottumwa Good Samaritan Center.
