Description	:	Jewell Olson, 89, of Columbus, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at Morys Haven in Columbus. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Highland Park Evangelical Free Church. There will be a private family interment in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Jewell was born Oct. 2, 1921, in Hallock, Minn., to Hafter and Elizabeth (Burris) Olson. She attended school in Hallock. Jewell was born Oct. 2, 1921, in Hallock, Minn., to Hafter and Elizabeth (Burris) Olson. She attended school in Hallock. In 1942, Jewell graduated from the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Grand Forks, N.D. In 1946, she graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Ill. Jewell was a medical missionary from 1949-1983 at Oicha, Belgian Congo. Between 1961-62, she worked at a hospital in Uganda, near the border, after having fled the rebels in Congo. In 1983, Jewell moved back to Columbus to take care of her father. Jewell was involved in many activities, including, Meals-on-Wheels, AWana, Columbus Mission, Tema Mates, Literacy Program, VBS, substitute teacher, I Can Club and a camp nurse. She enjoyed reading, biking, gardening, writing letters, cooking and photography. She was a member of the Highland Park Evangelical Free Church. Jewell is survived by her niece, Kathy Soulliere, of Columbus; niece, Karen (Steve) Anderson, of Drummond, Wis.; sister-in-law, Marlene Olson, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; cousins, Goldyn (Dick) Liebschwager, of Columbus; cousins, Geanne (Jerry) Grimes Chlopek, of Columbus; and many other nieces, nephews and faithful friends. Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, Hafter and Elizabeth Olson; sister, Helen Dalke; sister, Winnie Oppliger; and brother, Bill Olson.
