Mrs. Allen was born October 6, 1928, in Hannah, South Carolina a daughter of the late Hobson Dewey Gaskins and Evelyn Turner Gaskins. Read More	LEXINGTON — Jill Gaskins Allen, 80, of Morningside Assisted Living of Lexington, 218 Old Chapin Road, Lexington, SC died Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Heartland Hospice House surrounded by her family. Mrs. Allen was born October 6, 1928, in Hannah, South Carolina a daughter of the late Hobson Dewey Gaskins and Evelyn Turner Gaskins. She was predeceased by her husband, John Keels Allen; a grandson, Dustin Taylor Chandler; sisters Ida Genelle Hanna, Nancy Vermelle Gaskins, Dewlyn Snowden; brothers, Hobson LaRoss Gaskins and Donald Cornelius Gaskins. Mrs. Allen was a graduate of Hannah Schools. She obtained her BA degree from Winthrop College in 1949 and her Master of Library Science in 1967. She is a retired librarian and school teacher of 41 years. Her first teaching job was in the Johnsonville Schools where she coached girls basketball and taught school. During her first year as basketball coach she coached her team to an undefeated season. She taught at Hannah High School and then returned to Johnsonville Schools in 1968 as the elementary Librarian until her retirement. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the South Carolina Education Association and National Education Association. She was active in the Johnsonville Womens Club where she served as president. She served as Chair of the Johnsonville Public Library Expansion Committee and was instrumental in expanding the Johnsonville Public library from a one room building to the current facility. Mrs. Allen was active in the Johnsonville United Methodist Church where she served on the finance committee, Administrative Board, Board of Trustees, United Methodist Women and taught the Ladies Bible Class. She transferred her membership to Lexington United Methodist Church in 1999. She moved to Morningside Assisted Living of Lexington in 1999 and called it home for 10 years. She was recognized at a recent reception as being one of the first residents to move into the facility when it opened in 1999. She ministered to new residents of Morningside Assisted Living of Lexington by working with the Morningside Staff to assist new residents in making the transition from being self sufficient in their own homes to assisted living. She was always known for her gentle smile and loving personality. She loved her son and his family dearly. She was Aunt Jill to her nieces and nephews and loved them all. She dearly loved her Morningside family. A special thanks to the entire Morningside Family for making it home. The family of Mrs. Allen would also like to express their gratitude to the staff of Lexington Medical Center and the staff of Heartland Hospice House for their loving care during her illness.
