Description	:	Jimmy Gene Waldman, son of Elmer John and Louisa Lela (Fischer) Waldman, was born May 29, 1934, on a farm in Knox County, south of Niobrara, Nebraska. After high... Read More	Jimmy Gene Waldman, son of Elmer John and Louisa Lela (Fischer) Waldman, was born May 29, 1934, on a farm in Knox County, south of Niobrara, Nebraska. Jimmy died Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Avera Creighton Care Centre in Creighton, Nebraska. Jim spent his early years living with his parents on the Blankenfeld farm east of Niobrara, where he attended rural school. Later, Jim moved with his family to a farm in the area where both sets of grandparents lived, between Niobrara and Center, where he attended rural school, and later graduated from Niobrara High School in 1953. After high school, Jim worked in Iowa, then returned to Niobrara where he worked for Roger "Bud" Burns in his filling station. On November 28, 1956, Jim was married to Helen M. Reynolds at the Lutheran Parsonage in Bloomfield, Nebraska. The young couple spent their first year of marriage in Niobrara, where Jim was working for Bud Burns, then moved to Jim's parents farm. When work at Burns' station slowed, Jim began working several miles from his parents farm for "Uncle Hank" Henry Fischer on his ranch north of Center, and Jim and Helen moved into the big frame house in the canyon west of Uncle Hank. This was the same place where Jim's grandparents, Louie and Nellie Fischer, had lived while Jim was growing up. Jim and Helen then moved to Uncle Lou Waldman's farm southeast of Niobrara for a time, before moving to Niobrara in 1960, where Jim began drilling and repairing water wells for Busch Drilling. In 1965, he leased the Frontier Station and Bait Shop in Niobrara, running the station until the spring of 1969, when Jim began doing road construction during the summer. By the end of 1969, he started working for Paul's Hardware as Paul Thierolf's right-hand man, doing plumbing and well work. After Thierolfs sold the business to Mike Keeler, Jim continued to do well repair work until 1991, when he became the maintenance man for Niobrara Valley Homes, as well as the caretaker for the L'Eau Qui Court Cemetery; positions that he held until retiring in 2005. Jim was always a hard worker, but in his free time, he enjoyed fishing, playing cards, driving around and sight-seeing, spending time and visiting with his family, helping Helen with her garden, and enjoying a cold beer. Jim passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Avera Creighton Care Centre in Creighton, Nebraska, where he had been convalescing after a brief illness. Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen Waldman of Niobrara, Nebraska; daughters, Sheila Marie (Tony) Linnen of Northwood, Iowa, (and their children, Sherrell Linnen, Antonn Linnen, Natasha Linnen, and Katrina Linnen) and Sherry Lynn (Eric Shanks) Waldman of Lincoln, Nebraska, (and their children, Lela Waldman-Shanks and Cedric Waldman-Shanks); son, John (Pam) Waldman of Hickman, Nebraska, (and their children, Amanda Waldman, Cody Waldman and wife Autumn, and Krista Waldman); great-grandchildren, Dashawn Linnen, Deshia Linnen, Taniyah Linnen, Tatyanah Linnen, and Elijah James Waldman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Illene Fry of Lincoln, Don (Millie) Reynolds of Denton, Nebraska, Larry (Lee) Reynolds of Houston, Texas, Colleen Nolan of Midland, Texas, and Kim (Susan) Reynolds of Roswell, Georgia; uncles and aunts, Carl (wife Fern) Fischer of Columbus, Nebraska, Marvin Fischer of Anoka, Minnesota, Wilfurd Fischer of Mora, Minnesota, and Lois (Fischer) Peters of Bay City, Michigan; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by three daughters (in infancy); his brother, Gerald G. "Mick" Waldman; his parents, Elmer and Lela Waldman; and parents-in-law, Robert and Hazel Reynolds.
