Memorial services were Monday at Washta United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carolyn Hollar officiating. Private inurnment was in Sunset View Cemetery at Washta. Jo Ann was born on March 11, 1935, at Sioux Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Mack and Leeta (Fairchild) Van Vickle. In March of 1941, the family moved to a farm north of Washta. Jo Ann attended Washta Consolidated Schools, graduating in 1952. After graduation, she began working for Simonsen Industries Inc. in Quimby, Iowa. Jo Ann worked there until retiring in 2001. She met the love of her life, Donald Peterman, while working, and they were united in marriage on May 9, 1954. This union was blessed with three children, Steven, Pamela and Dawn. Jo Ann was a member of the Washta United Methodist Church and was also a member of the UMW. She enjoyed playing cards. She and Don belonged to a 500 card club for many years. Following Don's passing, Jo Ann moved to Sioux City in 2002, to be closer to her family. In Sioux City she met many new friends and joined card clubs. She loved the mountains and natural beauty of the West, her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed a special bond with the special needs child that Dawn and David adopted. She especially enjoyed being a great-grandmother to Logan, son of Cory and Nicole Wilson. Jo Ann will be missed by her family which includes her children, Steve (Suzanne) Peterman of Elk Point, S.D.; Pam Potts (Dan) of Omaha, and Dawn Pratt (Dave) of Sioux City. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nicole Wilson (Cory), Rachel Parish (Keith), Lexie, Hunter and Reaghan Pratt; and her great-grandson, Logan Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; sister, Ethel Tiesler; and two brothers, Harold and Mordean Van Vickle.
