A memorial service was held at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, Fort Myers, Florida on Friday, April 10. Joan's ashes were brought to Nebraska, where a Rosary took place at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16th, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Heun. Joan Agnes Pieper was born on 29, October 1941 on a farm South of Howells, Colfax County, Nebraska to Fred and Mary (Evert) Pieper. Joan attended Rural School District #37 in Colfax County and Howells High School. She graduated from Howells High School in 1960. Joan married George A. Brichacek on September 8, 1960 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tabor, Nebraska. George and Joan lived in the Dodge, Clarkson areas. They bought a farm north of Schuyler in the Heun community in 1973. Where they worked together on their hog farm. Joan enjoyed raising her family. She enjoyed cake decorating and painting ceramics and loved to cook. Joan was employed by First National Bank in Schuyler as the Premium Club Director for five years. Joan owned and operated Joan’s Catering for fifteen years in the area. In September of 2000, George and Joan moved to Fort Myers, Florida. Joan worked as a Customer Service Representative at Colonial Bank and was involved with customer loans and annuities for several years before retiring three years ago. In 2006 Joan was awarded the E-Award, also known as The Service to Mankind Award, and was also nominated for the award on three other occasions. She volunteered at the Southwest International Airport in Ft. Myers. She was a real "people person". Joan is survived by her husband George, of Ft. Myers, FL; children: Russell (Janell) Brichacek of Omaha, Susan (Duane) Mundt of Lincoln, John (Kris) Brichacek of Waterloo, NE, Jim (Judy) of Lincoln and Bill Brichacek of Omaha; 13 grandchildren; sisters: Lavina Langhorst of Fremont, Luciel Jonas of Clarkson, Elaine (Charles) Vrba of David City, Rosemary (Steve) Brabec of Clarkson, brother: Bob (Jonnie) Pieper of Norfolk, sister-in-law; Delores Bristol of Columbus. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, sons Gerald and Tom Brichacek, infant grandchild, Taylor Mundt, infant brother, Julius Pieper and brother-in-laws: Gerhard Langhorst and Leonard Jonas.
