She was a 1945 graduate of Willard High School and a 1949 graduate of Heidelberg College with a bachelor of arts degree. She also attended Bowling Green State University and Ashland University. A teacher for 33 years, she retired in 1984 after a 30 year career as an English teacher at Shelby Senior High School. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Willard. Professional organizations she belonged to included American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma (Gamma Kappa Chapter), National Education Association, Ohio Education Association, Richland County Retired Teacher's Association, Shelby Retired Teacher's Association, and Ohio Retired Teacher's Association. Surviving are several cousins including, Richard and Arvilla Sheron of Pinehurst, N.C., Lysle, Paul, and Max Valkenburg, and Kay Morrison, all of Phoenix, Ariz. and Mike Thompkins of Shrewsbury, Mass. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rex in 1984 and Mary in 1998. Friends called Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lindsey-Kocher Funeral Service. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Stanley Szybka officiating. Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, Willard.
