A memorial service will be held 10:30 am Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Gibbon Faith United Church. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Joan was born June 26, 1930 in Hastings, Nebraska to Gus and Alvina (Johannesen) Soterin. She was raised in Minden, NE and attended Minden High School. On August 19, 1947, Joan was united in marriage to Dale Edward Murr in Republican City, NE. The couple lived all over the state, moving every few years for Dale’s work. Joan was always there for her family. She was a gracious host to all who entered her home. Joan enjoyed cooking and baking and cherished her time spent with family, especially her great grandchildren. She was a longtime member of P.E.O., Rebekah’s Lodge, Eastern Star and the Gibbon Faith United Church. Survivors include her son Kelly (Fran) Murr of Gibbon; daughter Melanie Murr of Gibbon; grandchildren Melissa (Michael) Pippin, LaNita (Cammon) Sheldon and Lanny Murr; great grandchildren Brooklyn Murr, Titus Sheldon, Olivia Sheldon, Jalyn Crist and Anthony Pippin; sister Delores (Ray) Cook of Denton, TX, as well as, many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dale E. Murr; son Lanny D. Murr; brother Lloyd Soterin; sisters Bonie Boomershine and Phyllis Kenyon.
