Description	:	Joan C. Sigdestad, 68, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Bristol, peacefully entered heaven on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Sanford Hospice after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Joan Constance Bakken was born September 30, 1939, to Clarence and Alice (Simonson) Bakken on the family farm north of Bristol. She was baptized and confirmed at Bergen Lutheran Church. She attended country school at Fountain School District 152 in Lynn Township and graduated from Bristol High School in 1957. On August 8, 1958, she married Sherrill Sigdestad. Joan Constance Bakken was born September 30, 1939, to Clarence and Alice (Simonson) Bakken on the family farm north of Bristol. She was baptized and confirmed at Bergen Lutheran Church. She attended country school at Fountain School District 152 in Lynn Township and graduated from Bristol High School in 1957. On August 8, 1958, she married Sherrill Sigdestad. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She spent the past 20 years at Communication Service for the Deaf serving in various capacities where she loved the challenge and was committed to her job. It was her dedication and compassion for people that led her to adopt new CSD employees and become their South Dakota mom. Another passion was her church family at Peace Lutheran Church where she was primarily responsible for welcoming new members, a job she loved. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Alice (Simonson) Bakken; her husband, Sherrill, and her two sons, Murray and Lori Sigdestad. Left to mourn her death and cherish all that she gave are her son, Lance Sigdestad and his special friend, Paula Souhrada, and her daughter, Carmen (Jerry) Steen both of Sioux Falls; her four grandchildren, Alec Sigdestad, Paxton, Payton, and Braydon Steen all of Sioux Falls; three sisters, Kay (Richard) Espeland, and Glenda Bakken both of Bristol, and Carol (Jerry) Raap of Andover; her two brothers-in-law, John (Beth) Sigdestad of Bristol, and David (Ava) Sigdestad of Pierpont; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, August 1, 2008 at Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls with Pastors Paul Stjernholm and Rolf Svanoe officiating. Burial will be at Bergen Lutheran Cemetery in rural Bristol on Saturday, August 2, 2008.
