Description	:	Joan was born and raised and lived most of her life in Fort Macleod, Alberta. Graduating from Macleod High School in the Class of ’59, and Mount Royal College in 1960, she was an active member of the community throughout her youth and adult life. She was a member of CGIT, Jobs Daughters, a life-long serving member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and ACW of Christ Church Anglican. Read More	Joan was born and raised and lived most of her life in Fort Macleod, Alberta. Graduating from Macleod High School in the Class of ’59, and Mount Royal College in 1960, she was an active member of the community throughout her youth and adult life. She was a member of CGIT, Jobs Daughters, a life-long serving member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and ACW of Christ Church Anglican. Joan’s first job after college was with the Canadian Pacific Railway in the purchasing department followed by working for Alberta Transportation in the mid-60s. She then went on to own and operate the local Family Dry Cleaners on main street, worked at the Fort Museum and as a RITE operator at the Court House, and finally 25 years as a clerk in the Town Office. As a supporter of the Arts, Joan had a passion for ceramics and painting in her later years and was a member of Allied Arts. She was also an active member of many committees such as the Olympic Torch committee, the Santa Claus Parade, History Book II, and the 1950s school reunions. She was a long-time volunteer with Meals on Wheels and Citizens on Patrol, and loved socializing over coffee with her friends. Joan was predeceased by her father Svend (‘Pete’) Pedersen, her mother Eva Pedersen (nee Lancaster), and her brother Lawrence Pedersen. She is survived by her son and daughter and two grandchildren. Joan, her parents, and her home were part of the history of the town, and in many ways, it is the end of an era. She was a kind woman and a beautiful soul. She will be missed. A memorial service is planned for September 21, 2019 at Christ Church Anglican. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to COP, Meals on Wheels, or Macleod Handi-Bus.
