Funeral services will be Saturday, January 30 at the United Methodist Church in Shelby. Interment will be in the Shelby Cemetery. Joann was born March 4, 1935 to Joseph W. and Gladys Nell (Burrier) Miller in Lincoln. She attended school in Utica and graduated from Utica High School in 1952. Joann was born March 4, 1935 to Joseph W. and Gladys Nell (Burrier) Miller in Lincoln. She attended school in Utica and graduated from Utica High School in 1952. On September 21, 1952 she married Robert Wayne Hopwood in Utica. To this union five children were born. They lived in town for 1 year before moving to a farm south of Shelby. Then they moved to his parents' home place where they continued farming until retiring in 2005. While her husband farmed, Joann was a homemaker, cook at the Shelby school, and Bernt's Cafe in Shelby and owner and operator of Hopwood Antiques. She enjoyed collecting antiques, spending time with her grandchildren and attending their many sporting events. She was a member of Shelby United Methodist Church. Survivors include her 3 sons and daughter, her daughter-in-law, 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, a sister, a sister-in-law, a brother, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 2009, her parents, one son Robert Mark Hopwood, and 2 brothers Leon Miller and Dale Bouchard. Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
