Williams Funeral Home Edgar, Nebraska ====== JoAnn Johnson, 88, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016 at Bryan Health Medical Center East, with her children and several grandchildren by her side. JoAnn was born at home, June 4, 1928 in Edgar, Nebraska to Floyd and Laurene Powell. She received her education from Edgar Public Schools, graduating in 1946. When JoAnn was in her teen years she worked part time at McLaughlin’s Market and the Rexall Drug Store Soda Shop as a “Soda Jerk”. Before and after her marriage to Dale H. Johnson, September 18, 1949 she worked for Benny’s Market owned by her father and brother. In 1970 she began working at the post office as a Flex clerk, retiring in 1990. JoAnn was talented with cooking and sewing her entire life. She loved to cook for family and friends, especially her famous cinnamon rolls and baked goods. Her sewing included a grand prize embroidered tablecloth at the State Fair and several award winning pieces at local county fairs. She sewed for her children and grandchildren several treasured items of clothing and stuffed animals. She continued to sew and repair garments while residing at College View. JoAnn was a member of the First Christian Church in Edgar, NE for which she was recently honored for her many years of service. While residing in Edgar she was very active in the church, Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Clay County Extension Club and PEO. Survivors include her Sons, Doug (Patty) Johnson of Ong, NE Ken (Kendra) Johnson of California, MO and daughter Sheila (Chuck) Leffler of Eustis, NE. Brother in law Delbert Johnson of Hastings, NE, Sister in law Marleen Powell of St.Libory, NE. The delights of her life - 11 grandchildren and spouses, 11 (and counting) great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Dale, parents Floyd and Laurene and brothers Clark, Gordon and Richard Powell. Visitation will be July 18th and 19th, 10:00 - 8:00 at the Williams Funeral Home in Edgar, Nebraska. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at the Edgar Christian Church at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor David King officiating. Interment will be at the Edgar Cemetery. In lieu of flowers family requests Memorials to Christian Church, American Legion Post 248 and Edgar Fire and Rescue. Williams Funeral Home Edgar, Nebraska
