Webster City Daily News Tuesday, October 30, 1923 Page 1, Col. 1 Old and Respected Resident Passes to Reward Mrs. Johanna Beem Dies Yesterday Afternoon at Old Home Corner Bank and Superior Streets — Was Almost Eighty Years Old. Mrs. Johanna Beem, widow of the late G.W. Beem, passed away yesterday afternoon at her home, corner of Bank and Superior streets, at 1:30 o'clock after a two weeks illness with asthma and heart trouble. She was almost eighty years of age, having been born in Ohio, November 29, 1843. Mrs. Beem was twice married, and is survived by one son, William Butler, residing in Minnesota. He is expected to arrive today or tomorrow. Another son passed away in 1904. The family have been residents of the city for many years, G. W. Beem, who passed away some seven years ago, having been a veteran of the Civil War and a member of Winfield Scott Post. Mrs. Beem also reared his children, including an adopted daughter, now Mrs. E. Butler, of this city. A stepson, Joe Beem, and several step-grandchildren, also survive the aged woman. Her days were full of useful service to others and for the past two years in spite of her advanced years, she has been caring for two children, only distantly related to her, who had no other home. During her last illness she was cared for, by her friend of many years, Mrs. Conrad Baker, of this city. A sister, living somewhere in the West, is believed to be still living although her name and address are unknown. Mrs. Beem has for years been known for her faithful conscientious performance of duty and among a large circle of old friends and acquaintances will be sorely missed.
