She was born February 24, 1943 in Columbus, NE to Glenn and Luella (Soulliere) Smith. She was born February 24, 1943 in Columbus, NE to Glenn and Luella (Soulliere) Smith. JoAnne spent her childhood and early years in Columbus, growing up on the Smith Dairy Farm, owned and operated by her father's family. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1961 and marched in the 1960 Rose Bowl Parade with the CHS band. In June of 1962, she married Ron Jonas at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church in Columbus and they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 16th, 2012. To this union, the Lord gave three loving sons: Todd, Tim, and Terry. JoAnne worked at the Consumer's Public Power in Columbus and then in Lincoln, where she helped put her husband, Ron through college at The University of Nebraska. After the Jonas family moved to Holdrege, she worked as the school secretary at Washington Elementary School for nearly 30 years. She had fond memories of all the children who went through school during those years. She also ran Mrs. J's Jingle Jeep (an ice cream wagon) in Holdrege for several summers. JoAnne also volunteered for Hospice in Holdrege. In Lincoln, she volunteered at Bryan Hospital, St. Peter's Church and School, and worked part-time as the receptionist for Bob Bennie Wealth Management. She loved to stay busy and did so even into advanced stages of her disease. JoAnne is survived by her husband, Ron; sons and daughters-in-law Todd and Kim Jonas of Ansley, Tim and Teri Jonas of Lincoln, and Terry and Brenda Jonas of McDonough, Georgia; her grandchildren Janelle and Jana(Terry and Brenda), Tanner(Tim and Teri), and Emily and Lilly(Todd and Kim), JoAnne loved all activities in which the grandkids took part and they were her pride and joy. She is also survived by her sister Karen Luhr of Lincoln; brothers Dwayne (Virginia) Smith and David (Pat) Smith of Columbus; and many other family members and friends who will miss her bright smile, positive outlook and zest for life, her faith, and never ending friendship. A Memorial Service for JoAnne will be Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 4500 Duxhall Drive, Lincoln, NE 68516, with Celebrant Father Michael Christensen. A Rosary service will be Friday evening at 7:00 PM at St. Peter's. Inurnment will be Saturday following the service at 3:30 pm at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, at 12th Ave and 14th Street in Columbus. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Tabitha Hospice at 4720 Randolph Street, Lincoln, NE 68510 or to St. Peter's Catholic Church.
