Born June 12, 1920, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late Clarence Chapman and Bertha (Self) Chapman. A member of Clifton First Baptist Church, he was a Mason, member of the Clifton Masonic Lodge, and worked for many years at Clifton Mill and Mortex Chemical. Read More	Joe Arthur Chapman, 86, of Spartanburg, SC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 3, 2006, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born June 12, 1920, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late Clarence Chapman and Bertha (Self) Chapman. A member of Clifton First Baptist Church, he was a Mason, member of the Clifton Masonic Lodge, and worked for many years at Clifton Mill and Mortex Chemical. He was a Carpenter's Mate 2nd Class E5 with the U.S. Navy Seebees during World War II. He leaves behind a family that he loved and was so devoted to which includes his wife of sixty-seven years, Sarah Elizabeth (Genobles) Chapman; two daughters, Kay George and her husband Steve, and Sherry Arnold and her husband Don, all of Spartanburg; three sisters-in-law, Bertha Chapman, Frankie Chapman, and Leola Genobles; three grandchildren, Shanna Jones and her husband Todd of Rock Hill, Tashia George of Greenville, and Joseph Bo Arnold of Spartanburg; his special grandchildren, Cassandra Compostella and her husband Gene of Florida, and Felicia Wright and her husband Rudy of Spartanburg; and special great-grandchildren who brought a smile to his face. He was predeceased by three brothers, Landrum Chapman, Jimmy Chapman, and Paul Chapman; and a sister, Zelia Mabry. Visitation was 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral service was held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at Floyds Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Michael Bradley. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
