He was born on April 3, 1924, in Franklin County, Iowa, to Hilko and Lena (Meyers) Boelkes. Joe attended country school in Franklin County. He was united in marriage to Ethel Becker in 1948 in Hansell, she preceded him in death in 1984. Joe then married Darlene Sidmore on November 29, 1985, in Nashua, Iowa. He was born on April 3, 1924, in Franklin County, Iowa, to Hilko and Lena (Meyers) Boelkes. Joe attended country school in Franklin County. He was united in marriage to Ethel Becker in 1948 in Hansell, she preceded him in death in 1984. Joe then married Darlene Sidmore on November 29, 1985, in Nashua, Iowa. He served his country in the United States Army. Joe was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hampton. He enjoyed playing the guitar with his band Judy and The Playboys, taking fishing trips to Minnesota with his family, participating in stock car races with his #45 car, going to steam engine shows and most of all going to all of his children and grandchildren’s events. Joe was a handyman and an inventor of many things. He is survived by his son: Ronnie and wife Becky Boelkes; daughter: Jolyne Edwards; son: Rob and wife Nancy Boelkes; son: John and wife Kimberly Boelkes; son: Jay Boelkes; grandchildren: Rhonda, Jody, Robin, Ben, Ashlyn, Zach and Madison; five great grandchildren and three sisters: Helen Brandt, Jeannette Nuehring and Edna Wright. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Hilko and Lena, wives Ethel and Darlene, three brothers, two sisters and one grandchild. ----------- The Des Moines Register Des Moines, Iowa Friday, 7 May 2010 Hampton - Funeral services for Joe Boelkes will be Tuesday, May 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Hampton. Visitation will be Monday, May 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. Burial will take place in Hampton Cemtery.
