Born May 6, 1932, in Gaston County, NC. son of the late John Milton Burgess and Doris Kate Reid Burgess; and husband of the late Sarah Jane Cannon Burgess. Born May 6, 1932, in Gaston County, NC. son of the late John Milton Burgess and Doris Kate Reid Burgess; and husband of the late Sarah Jane Cannon Burgess. A U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict, a 1952 graduate of Spartanburg High School and attended Clemson University, and a retired Tool & Dye Designer with Square D and IBM. An avid golfer and historian, he worked on the Reid family genealogy and updated a pamphlet about the history of Mt. Dearborn Arsenal in Chester, SC. Mr. Burgess was a follower of the Messiah of Israel-Yeshua the Christ and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He loved sweets! Survivors include his daughters, Beth Burgess Drennen (Lowry) and Laurie Burgess, sons, John Burgess (Gina) and Robert Burgess (Pam); eight grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and siblings, John M. Burgess, Lynda Burgess Salditt, and Raymond Burgess. Predeceased by siblings, William Mack Burgess (18 Oct 1935 – 5 Sep 1999) and Sara Ann Burgess Romney (20 Jan 1942 – 24 Sep 2017). Graveside services were 3:00 PM, Thursday, January 28, 2021, in West Oakwood Cemetery, Spartanburg, SC, conducted by Mr. Lowry Drennen. Visitation was held at the graveside following the service.
