Born in Gaffney, SC, he was the husband of Cathy Cooksey Byars and son of the late Charles "Boots" and Eula Beattie Byars. He was a graduate of Blacksburg High School and retired from Duke Energy after 35 years of service. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Born in Gaffney, SC, he was the husband of Cathy Cooksey Byars and son of the late Charles "Boots" and Eula Beattie Byars. He was a graduate of Blacksburg High School and retired from Duke Energy after 35 years of service. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He always had a smile on his face, and never complained especially during his battle with cancer. He was a born again Christian who loved the Lord very much. Surviving in addition to his wife Cathy are two daughters, April Terry of Gaffney, and Carmen Myrick and husband, Richard, of Clover; one brother, Mack Byars and wife, Sheila, of Blacksburg; three sisters, Patricia Humphries and husband, Wayne, of Gaffney, Brenda Boheler of Blacksburg, and Terri Muzyka and husband, Mike, of Buford, Ga.; four grandchildren, Alyssa Johnston, Brentley Norman, Peyton and Nash Myrick; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Byars was predeceased by an infant son, Peyton Todd Byars and a brother-in-law, Howard Boheler. The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:30 p.m. in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brian P. Harris officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, in care of Friendship Baptist Church, 830 Friendship Church Road, Pauline, S.C. 29374.
