He died at the age of sixty-five on Monday, March 7, 2005, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, after a courageous fight against cancer. He died at the age of sixty-five on Monday, March 7, 2005, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, after a courageous fight against cancer. Joe was raised on a farm near Quasqueton, Iowa, and graduated from Quasqueton High School in 1957. In 1961, he earned his undergraduate degree from Loras College in Dubuque, and later received a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Iowa Law School in 1964. On August 10, 1963, Joe was united in marriage to Artis Ralston at the St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Iowa City. The couple made their home in Iowa City until Joe completed Law School, at which time they moved to Denison and Joe accepted a position with the Powers & Reimer Law Firm. He was elected County Attorney of Crawford County in 1966, serving until 1968. In 1968, Joe started his own law practice with an office in Charter Oak and one in his home in Denison. He retired from his law practice in November of 2003 due to health problems. He also served as Crawford County Magistrate from 1975 until 2001. Joe was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Bar Association, the Iowa Bar Association and the Crawford County Bar Association. Joe loved attending his grandchildren's activities, visiting with people, playing Bridge, mushroom hunting, reading newspapers and watching the financial network on television. Preceding Joe in death were his parents and one daughter, Susan in infancy. Survivors include his wife, Artis of Denison; two daughters, Kathryn Weingardt and her husband, David of Aurora, Colorado; Karen Behrens and her husband, Dan of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; one son, Michael Boddicker and his wife, Ruth of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Gregory Behrens, Andrew Behrens, Jessica Behrens and Zachary Boddicker; other relatives and many friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2005, at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa. Fr. Edward Murray served as Celebrant and Fr. Lloyd White served as Concelebrant of the Mass. Jean Cornelius provided the organ accompaniment for the St. Rose of Lima Choir. Lector was Ann Graven; Eulogist was Dan Behrens, Eucharistic Ministers were Earl and Sharon Graham; Gift Bearers were Richard and Rosemarie Penn; Servers were Andrew Crawford, Dylan Curnyn and Cortney Reiser. Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers were the Crawford County Bar Association. Pallbearers were Major Boddicker, Herman Rosburg, Dan Boddicker, Mark Boddicker, Randy Ralston, Larry Ralston, Ron Wellner and Rick Staley. A Legion of Mary Rosary was held at 4 p.m. and Vigil Service at 7 p.m., Thursday at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the Parish Center, served by the Altar Society. A private family interment was held Saturday, March 12, 2005 at the St. Patrick's - St. Paul's Cemetery in Watkins, Iowa.
