Read More	Joe's obit read: IN MEMORY OF JOE LEWIS BROWN Joe was the son of Perry M. and Josie M. Bredeson Brown and was born August 30, 1927 at Freeport, IL. At an early age his family moved to Macomb, Mississippi and later to Memphis, Tennessee, where he attended school. He worked as a telegrapher for the Illinois Central Railroad before serving as a Radio Man Third Class in the Navy during World War II. Following his discharge, he came to Grinnell and for 23 years served as a station agent for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. Joe was married to Bernadine A. Pierce on June 5, 1950 and they continued to make Grinnell their home. Joe was active in the Scouting program of Troop #313 and coached Little League baseball. He loved nature and was fond of spending time with his dog, camping, and fishing with his family. An avid fan of sports, he followed the St. Louis Cardinals and the local Tiger teams. He was active in Masonic work, serving as a district lecturer; Past Master of Hermon Lodge #273 AF and AM; and Past Patron of Beulah Chapter #47 of the O.E.S. Following the closing of the Rock Island, he was employed at Grinnell College and for the past 8 years with Parish and Cram Refrigeration. Joe is survived by his wife Bernie; his three sons, Mike of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Pat of Grundy Center, IA; and Jim of Grinnell; his 10 grandchildren; his father, Perry of Grundy Center; and his brother, Robert C. Brown of Hammond, Louisiana. Joe died Sunday afternoon, June 15, 1986 at the age of 58 of cancer at his home. He was preceded in death by his mother, Josie, on July 10, 1980.
