Gurganus, M, age 3, were living with their grandparents, Joe McLawhorn and Nancy E. McLawhorn, the parents of Onnie Elizabeth McLawhorn who married P. M. Gurganus on May 25, 1911 in Ayden, Pitt County, NC. Onnie died on March 14, 1918. P. M. Gurganus then married Minnie Arrington on December 25, 1919 in Ayden, Pitt County, NC. Joe Mitchell Gurganus, age 18, son of Pearlie Gurganus, living, and O. E. Gurganus, dead, married Nellie T. Teel, age 16, daughter of Jim Teel, living, and Harriett Teel, living, on July 14, 1933 in Greenville, Pitt County, NC. It appears that they divorced. On the 1940 US census for Raleigh, Wake County, NC, J. M. Gurganus, divorced, brother-in-law, age 27, was living with Nick Crawley and Wade Crawley, Joe's sister.
