Description	:	In 1780, Joel Grannis was listed as having fought at Castleton in Capt. Abishai Moseley's company. . According to the History of the Town of Poultney, he came from Connecticut to Poultney, VT ca 1771. The History says that he became lost in the woods and froze to death, and was the first person to be buried in the town cemetery. (The land for the cemetery was laid out in 1775 and Joel Grannis did not die until 1781, per his probate, so he was not the first person buried in the cemetery.) .
