Description	:	Joel Harland was born March 9, 1839 at Frankfort, Indiana and died in Iola February 16, 1922, aged 81 years, 11 months and 7 days. He was the son of Joel Harland and Mary Mulke pioneers in the work of the Christian Church of which Mr. Harland was a member being a charter member of the Christian Church of Frankfort, Indiana. While in Iola some years ago he became an elder in the First Christian Church during the ministry of O.C. Moomaw. Read More	Joel Harland was born March 9, 1839 at Frankfort, Indiana and died in Iola February 16, 1922, aged 81 years, 11 months and 7 days. He was the son of Joel Harland and Mary Mulke pioneers in the work of the Christian Church of which Mr. Harland was a member being a charter member of the Christian Church of Frankfort, Indiana. While in Iola some years ago he became an elder in the First Christian Church during the ministry of O.C. Moomaw. About 60 years ago he married Jenetta Sly in the state of Illinois and to that union were born nine children five of whom survive, Martha Louise Rose, Serene Lee, Janetta Townsend of Iola. Grace McAllister of Denver, Colorado and William B. Harland of Frankfort, Indiana. His first wife died about 10 years ago. He later married again taking for his partner, Rachel Cressley of Franfort. She passed in 1913. There were no children to this union. Mr. Harland came to Iola for the second time about four years ago but though still interested in the work of the church was unable to attend through age. He has been active public servant all his life particularly in those offices which tend to the well being of the community. He was an ardent Sunday School worker and through the years have not touched him lightly he is still a well known and honored figure in the City of Frankfort. The funeral took place at the Sleeper-Ralsten Chapel, Rev. A.P. Wilson of the Central Chruch officiating. Burial was made in Highland Cemetery.
