Description	:	MARION - Joel Stuart Shelley, of 1618 Lowen Road, Charlotte, N.C., died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, from injuries received in a motorcycle accident. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Reedy Creek Baptist Church, directed by Richardson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will precede the funeral at 10 a.m. in the church fellowship hall. Mr. Shelley was born Jan. 9, 1968, in Marion County, a son of Lavern Bernie and Frances Shelley of Marion. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy for four years on the submarine, the U.S.S. Pogy. He was employed by Bell South in Charlotte, N.C. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are: three brothers, Wayne Johnson of Marion, Stanley Shelley and his wife, Gay, of Columbia, and Scott Shelley of Florence; two sisters, Patsy Clark of Pilot Mountain, N.C. and Jo Ann Dody of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a niece, Lindsey Shelley and a nephew, Caleb Shelley both of Columbia. He was predeceased by a nephew, Kyle Shelley.
