A native of Gramling, SC, he was the son of the late George Franklin and Carrie Lee Fisher Cartee and widower of Tressie Mae Edwards. He was first married to the late Josephine Stewart Cartee. He was a member of Landrum First Baptist Church where he served as Trustee and Chairman of the Deacons, Director of the Adult Sunday School Department, and director of Vacation Bible School. Landrum, SC - Joel William Cartee, 98, of Landrum died August 5, 2006. A native of Gramling, SC, he was the son of the late George Franklin and Carrie Lee Fisher Cartee and widower of Tressie Mae Edwards. He was first married to the late Josephine Stewart Cartee. He was a member of Landrum First Baptist Church where he served as Trustee and Chairman of the Deacons, Director of the Adult Sunday School Department, and director of Vacation Bible School. He was retired as an area service manager from Duke Power and was a lifetime member of Inman Lodge #201, the Hejaz Temple and the Inman Chapter #169 Order of the Eastern Star, and was a member of Yorkrite. He was an honorary member of Landrum Lodge #278. He is survived by a sister, Frances C. Huffman of Inman and two step daughters, Jane Finger of Columbus and Kay King of Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:30 pm Tuesday at Landrum First Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3:30pm at the church. Burial will be in Gramling United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Connie Maxwell Children's Home, P.O. Box 1178 Greenwood, SC 29648-1178 or to the Shriner's Hospital for Children 950 W Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
