Read More	Coon Rapids Enterprise February 18, 1927 Fred Horstman died early Monday morning at his home in the northeast part of town. He had failed gradually and strength due to his old age, of late, and particularly the past few months and during the past few weeks of his life, he was confined much of the time to the house. He had been a resident of Coon Rapids and vicinity many years, at first being engaged in farming north of town. When his strength failed him for farm work, he moved to town and did various kinds of labor, a part of the time conducting a pool hall. He was uniformly courteous and gentlemanly and the soul of honor. Everybody was a friend of Fred Horstman. He and his wife assumed every responsibility of life courageously and made homes for grandchildren needing their care, and rearing them into ways of industry and credibility. Both were self-sacrificing. His passing removes from the locality an esteemed citizen and a good neighbor. The following account of the deceased life and death has been handed us: Johann August Friedrich Horstman was born February 25th, 1849, at Holtorf, Germany. On March 16th, he was baptized. He learned to know his Savior in the Christian day school and on April 12, 1863, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On June 2, 1876 he was united in holy wedlock with Anna nee Pevestorf. On April 3, 1882, they left the United States. After staying in Chicago for a few weeks they came to Greene County, Iowa. He was a carpenter by trade. Later they moved to Coon Rapids where they have lived for over 20 years. The deceased was one of the charter members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Willow Township. During the last month of his life heart trouble from which he suffered for over many years kept him at home. On Monday morning, February 14th, at 5:30, the Lord called him home. He leaves to mourn, his aged widow, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Their daughter has also died. The whereabouts of the son, Fred, are unknown. Funeral services at 1:30 at the house in German and that the Presbyterian church at two on Wednesday, February 16th, Rev. W. H. Friedrich officiating. Words of comfort in Rev. 2:10.
