Mr. Hothus was born at Elk Creek June 9, 1886. His parents wer Ludwig and Maria (Klussmieier) Holthus. He attended the public and parochial schools of Elk Creek, and became a farmer. Read More	Taken from the newspaper. Obituary: Henrry Holthus of Sterling, Ne. died at 9:30 o'clock Sunday morning, November 24, 1963, the cause of his death was a cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Hothus was born at Elk Creek June 9, 1886. His parents wer Ludwig and Maria (Klussmieier) Holthus. He attended the public and parochial schools of Elk Creek, and became a farmer. He lived on the Elk Creek farm from 1886-1943. His marriage to Miss Mary Rathe of Sterling took place Oct. 6, 1910 in St. Peter's Lutheran Church near Elk Creek, Ne. 2 children were born to them. In 1943, Mr. Holthus retired and they moved to Tecumseh. They located in Sterling in 1951. Mr. Holthus was a life-long Lutheran. At the time of his death, he was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church of Sterling, Ne. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Esther. Suriving Mr. Holthus are his wife; a son, Paul Holthus of Hot Springs, AR.; a grandson, Robert Holthus of New Orleans, LA.; and 2 great grandsons, also of new Orleans. The funeral was held in the Immanuel Lutheran church of Sterling. Rev. Arthur Wittrock of Sterling officiated. The pallbearers were Al Thompson, August and Walter Boden, Theodore Bartels and Norman and Orvin Rathe. Burial was in the Sterling cemetery. NOTE: Mary Baucke and Edmund Ulrich were the attendants at the wedding of Henry Holthus and Mary Rathe. Mary(Rathe) Holthus was the sister of Mrs. Albert (Emma) Beethe. Their children were Paul Ludwig Heinrich Holthus Aug. 30, 1913- Jan. 4, 1998 and Esther Louisa Maria Holthuse July 4, 1918-July 4, 1918. She buried at St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery. Paul died at Hot Springs, AR. burial place unknown.
