John Frederick August Wurdemann was born at Sage, Oldenburg, Germany, Nov. 14, 1865, and was brought to this country by his parents when he was 9 months old. The family located first at Mayville, Wis., and after a year there they moved to Platte county, taking a homestead 11 miles northeast of Columbus in Bismark township. He grew to manhood there and took over the management of the farm later, living there continuously from the time he was a baby until 1924 when he retired and moved to Columbus. His marriage to Miss Anna Cattau, took place at Christ Lutheran Church Aug. 1, 1890. Mrs. Wurdemann died Mar. 7, 1936, and since that time, two granddaughters, Miss Mable and Miss Alvina Marty, lived with him and kept house for him. He was a prominent and successful farmer, highly esteemed and widely known in his home community. He served for several years as road overseer, was township treasurer for two terms and served for more than 10 years on the board of School District 15. Later he was a member of the board of Christ Lutheran parochial school. He was a devout member of the Lutheran faith, and when living in the country held membership in Christ Lutheran church. After he moved to Columbus he affiliated with Immanuel Lutheran Church. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Adolph Hoge, sr., and Mrs. G.E. Marty of Columbus, Mrs. E.A. Marty of Battle Creek, and Mrs. Hugo Nissen of Clarks; two sons, Paul and Julius Wurdemann, on the home place; 17 grandchildren and one brother, John Wurdemann of Columbus. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the home, and at 2:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Rev. A. H. Guettler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be made in Christ Lutheran cemetery, 14 miles northeast of Columbus. The body will be taken to the residence tomorrow afternoon from the McKown funeral home.
