Funeral services were conducted last Thursday afternoon at the Selby Methodist church with Reverend William Hennig of St. John's Lutheran church officiating. John F Himrich was born in Alt Friedenstal, South Russia, on November 28, 1875, the son of Johann Fredrich Himrich and Susanna Neumiller. John F Himrich was born in Alt Friedenstal, South Russia, on November 28, 1875, the son of Johann Fredrich Himrich and Susanna Neumiller. On November 30 of the same year, he was baptized and later, at the proper age was confirmed into the Lutheran faith. He came to the United States at the age of nine years with his parents in 1884, the family establishing their home at Scotland, South Dakota. Ten years later, in 1896, the deceased came to Walworth County and took up a homestead east of what is now the City of Selby. He was married December 19, 1899, at Selby, South Dakota, to Margaret Helm of Java, and this union was blessed with three sons, all of whom survive the father. Through diligency and perseverance and in spite of long years of drought, crop failures and other adversities, Mr. Himrich became one of the many successful farmers in this vicinity. He was honest and upright and devoted to his family, and was a faithful member of the Selby Lutheran church. About four years ago he began to complain about pain and weakness in his legs and in spite of the fact that he sought medical aid from many sources, his condition grew steadily worse. During the last 14 months he had lost the use of his legs and was confined to a bed or a wheel chiar during his long helplessness, his faithful life companion gave him patient and Loving care. The last two weeks of his life, he was so waek that he was constantly confined to his bed. He slipped away peacefully at 6 a.m. Monday, May 07, at the age of 69 years, five months and three days. Cause of death was given as hardening of the arteries. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons, John Jr. and Robert of Selby, and Arthur of Mobridge; three brothers, Adam, Emanuel and Edward Himrich, all of this vicinity; four sisters, Lizzie (Gottfried) Wagner, Lydia Wagner, and Christina (Robert) Ebel, all of Selby, and Katie (Christ) Hirning of Java; and six grandchildren.
