Funeral services were held from the UCC on Tuesday afternoon for George Gies, Sr., Wheeler area pioneer. The Rev A. Hausauer officiated and burial was in the Odessa Cemetery, under the direction of the Strate Funeral Home. Born in Russia, May 16, 1866, Mr Gies grew to manhood and was married to Anna Marie Rohn. In 1899 the family migrated to the United States, living five years at Spokane, and then homesteading near Wheeler. In 1942 Mr and Mrs Gies retired to Odessa, and she died in 1952. His health failed and he was placed in a hospital, where he died April 23. Survivors include two sons, Jacob, Tacoma; and Henry, Moses Lake; 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Conrad Gies, Odessa.
