Mr. Haake had been out as usual on Saturday and attended to his duties as janitor at the city hall, which position he had held for about thirty years, and discharged with great loyalty and faithfulness. He had apparently passed from this life while asleep. Mr. Haake would have been 80 years of age in April. He came to the United States from Germany and was a devoted member of the Lutheran church. His funeral was held Wednesday. He is survived by two step sons, Henry Plugge of Fremont and Fred Plugge, Sr. of near Arlington. He was a man very loyal to his friends, and not afraid to denounce anything he thought wrong, and he will be missed by a large circle of acquaintances. Blair Pilot Tribune, Arlington News, 16 Jan 1930, page 9, column 1 Fred Plugge, Jr., went to the home of his step grandfather, Herman Haake, at about 10 o'clock Sunday morning, January 12, and found the old gentleman dead in his bed. The doctor, when called, thought he had been dead about two hours. Mr. Haake had lived alone for a number of years. He was 80 years of age and came to this country from Germany when a young man. Mr. Haake had been the janitor at the city hall for nearly thirty years and felt a great pride in his years of faithful service. He was very hard of hearing which made conversation with him very difficult. He was a man of sterling character, very loyal to his friends and will be missed by the people of Arlington. Henry Plugge, of Fremont, and Fred Plugge, who lives north of town, are step sons and the late Mrs. Herbert Payne, of Arlington, was a stepdaughter. He leaves no immediate family. The funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran church.
