Mr. Karli was born June 6, 1820, at Kittk-oh Kanton Solothurn, Switzerland; he was a highly educated man and but few saw in him the German and French scholar. He held positions of trust in his native county to the satisfaction of his constituents. Among a large number of Swiss emigrants that bid farewell to old "Helvetia" March 12. 1857, was Mr. Karli with a wife and nine children. He landed in Well, Ill., sometime in May where he made his home and engaged in farming. There is where he buried his first wife and was left alone with 10 motherless children in a strange land among strangers. In 1864 he moved to Plymouth County, this state, and settled on a farm near Melbourne. Four sons and one daughter, Mrs. Fred Knapp, of Plymouth Township, are living in this county highly respected. Thus has passed away another of the pioneer band. The funeral will take place from his home on Clark street Saturday, Dec. 8, at 9 a. m. The remains will be taken to Melbourne Cemetery for interment, and one of Plymouth County's pioneers is no more. Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel Thursday, December 7, 1893 Le Mars, Iowa
