Description	:	John Bahlmann, well known citizen of Tripoli died at his home at 1:30 p.m. on October 20, 1937 after a prolonged illness. Age 80 years, 1 month, and 20 days. John Karl Friedrich Bahlmann was born June 30, 1857 in Gross Woltersdorf, Germany. He received his schooling in the old country and was confirmed in Luebow, Germany. On November 12, 1880 he was united in marriage to Wilhelmine Mueller. They were blessed with 10 children. One son, William died in infancy. John Karl Friedrich Bahlmann was born June 30, 1857 in Gross Woltersdorf, Germany. He received his schooling in the old country and was confirmed in Luebow, Germany. On November 12, 1880 he was united in marriage to Wilhelmine Mueller. They were blessed with 10 children. One son, William died in infancy. In 1883 they immigrated to America settling in Bremer County, Iowa. They first took up their home in what is now know as Old Tripoli. Later they purchased a farm in LeRoy Township five miles North of Tripoli. While on the farm John helped in organizing the LeRoy Township Evangelical Church, was active in building the church, and for a number of years served on the church board. After moving to Tripoli he affiliated with the St. Peter's Evangelical Church. At the time of his death he was survived by a brother Joachim in Tripoli and one brother in Germany. The following poem was written by Geneva Grebien daughter of William and Emma (Bahlmann) Grebien in memory of her Grandfather: A road of many miles, Was winding thru the land, It had its happiness and trials, Yet trusted a might hand. Traveling had become a burden, After the eightieth mile; But relief came at last, when He gave up the ghost with a contented smile.
