Description	:	Age: 85 Yrs, 0 Mo, 6 Days Obituary: Mr. Johann Michels Claassen was born the 16th of December 1829 at Tjuche, Ostfriesland, Germany, and was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church in the old counry. He was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Miss Marie Margaritha Ubbinga in 1860. They had seven children of whom two died in infancy. He was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Miss Marie Margaritha Ubbinga in 1860. They had seven children of whom two died in infancy. The family came to America in 1889 and settled down in Illinois where they lived for six years. In 1895 they moved to Sioux county, Iowa, where they stayed only one year. They came to Lyon county, Iowa, living here since. His wife was born the 1st of December 1833 and died the 12th of July 1905, since that time the deceased lived alone together with his youngest son, the older children having been married. The deceased always enjoyed a good, strong health, but three years ago he had an attach of apoplexy or paralysis, but got real well again. Last fall, a year ago, he suffered from another attach, and since then he became weaker. About a year ago he came to his youngest daughter and her family where he could enjoy a good care. On the 8th of November he once again longed for the holy Communion and received it. A few weeks after he became seriously sick and more or less became unconscious. During the last days of his life he got very quiet and peaceful. He died on the forenoon of the 22nd of December at the age of 85 years and six days. The mourning survivors are his children, Mrs. Henderina Habbings, Gerhardt Claassen, Peter Claassen, Mrs. Edje Rudloff and Mrs. Thedea Habbinga, his sons-in-law, Dirk Habbinga, Christ Rudloff, Hinrich Habbinga and his daughter-in-law Mrs. Lizza Claassen, 12 grandchildren and many other relations and friends. The funeral took place on the 24th of December at the graveyard near George after services having been held in the house of Hinrich Habbinga and at the Lutheran church in George by Rev. P.J. Bunge. The pallbearers were Messrs. Wm. Behrens, John Miller, Chas. Gransow, Wm. Woelber, Herman Hundt and Fred Kemna..
