He brought his family to America 31 Jul y 1885. Johann Theodor owned 8,18 Hektar(that means even if i dont know if the measurement is the same as in the states) of land and payd 6,74 Mark tax(for the ground he lived on). For his hou se he payed a tax of 1,20 Mark. By selling some immobilia (a house perhaps) he ownes 2500 Mark. A lot of money.This information came from Manferd in Germany. His daughter Kate had come to America in 1884 and then sent back for the rest of the family. He owned and operated his own farm in Rome Township, Davison County, located a mile north and a mile east of Ethan S.D. In later years he owned a home in Ethan. Located half a block south of the main street and a block east of the railroad tracks. Where he operated a feed barn that stood on the premises. Theodore spoke only German, and could read and write the language. He attained citizenship by being a resident of Dakota Territory at the time it became a state. He died in his room on his farm where he made his home with his grandson Ted Reinartz and family. He was buried in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery at Ethan S.D. on Aug. 24 ,1931. His death certificate lists his father as Theodore Reinartz, Birthplace Germany, and his mothers Maiden name and birthplace as Kath. Forings, Germany.(His tomb stone lists his birth and death dates as 13 June 1836 to 20 Aug. 1931.His death certificate list a 14 Jun 1836 to 2 1 Aug 1931) He died of Prostate (sp) with depression of the urine and senility. Margaretta his wife, surname as Michelson. Was born 19 Nov 1834 in Germany of German parents John Michels and Katherina Hanson. Her parents did not come to America. And according to Tracy Wittstruck Margaretta came from a big family but she was the only one to come to America. She married Theodore Reinartz in 1860, and at least two of the surviving children were born in Kalen born, Greisdauhn, Germany. They referred to their home as Dusseldorf , and they wer e Rhineland . Margareta was the mother of 10 children, four of them survived childhood and came to America with her in 1885. Although Kate, the oldest daughter came a year earlier and ma rried Frank Young, and sent back to Germany for her parents and three younger children. Her entire life after entering this country was spent in Ethan Community. Her four children all married and had families of there own , and all lived in the Ethan area. Except John who later moved to Huron,S.D. Margareta could read and write and spoke only German. She died on 19 Nov. 1914 , on her 80th birthday. Cause of death listed as senility, and place of death was Mitchell, Davison Count y S.D. possibly she was hospitalized there. She was buried 21 Nov ,1914 and lays beside her husband of 54 years, who survived her by another 17 years. May she rest in peace. The name Reinards was changed to Reinartz when the family came to America.
