The Rev. John Witt pastor of the church, was in charge of the service. Mr. Kortje was born Feb 27, 1860, in Prussia, Germany, and received his education in Salzwedel, Germany. He came to America in 1882 and settled in Cherokee, IA. In 1890, he was married to Miss Gertrude Rossmeyer, who preceded him in death seventeen years ago. The family came to Nebraska in 1907 location near Lynch, but moved to a farm near Norfolk seven years later in 1914, and had since resided here. He is survived by eight sons and daughters: Albert, Mrs. Emma Leitzke, Fred and Carl Kortje, Mrs. Marie Braasch, Mrs. Martha Wagner and Arthur and Henry Kortje. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters. Burial was in the St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Obed Raasch, Otto Illgen, Rayal Uecker, Paul Theih, Louis Dommer and Paul Dreyer.
