Emigrated to the United States, departing from Hamburg and arriving in New Orleans June 9th, 1847, aboard the ship Harriet, with mother, step-father Aasmus Maass, & two sisters: Ida Hahn & Catharina Margaretha Hahn. The family settled in Scott County, Iowa, and made their living farming. John married Dora E. Roennau in Scott County, Iowa, on February 16th, 1856. He mustered in Co B 1st Nebraska Cavalry on 20 April 1864. John was a farrier and a blacksmith. Transferred to Co G 1st Nebraska Cavalry on 10 July 1865. John Hahn, a Well Known Farmer , is the Victim. - - While visiting at the John Schwenck home in Papillion Tuesday evening, John Hahn was kicked in the abdomen by a horse. It was not thought at the time that any serious results would ensue from the wound but during the night after reaching his home he began to suffer greatly, and a physician was sent for. All possible aid was given him by several doctors but he grew steadily worse until about three o'clock Wednesday morning when he passed away. John Hahn was born in Holstein, Germany, February 7, 1829, and at the age of seventeen he came to America, settling at Davenport, Iowa. He resided there about three years when he moved to St. Mary's, Iowa, where he resided until 1863, when he enlisted in Co B 1st Battalion Nebraska Cavalry. He served until July 1, 1866, when he was discharged. Soon afterwards he came to Sarpy county and located on the farm upon which he has since resided, and by careful management and hard labor he succeeded in amassing a large amount of real estate and other property. Mr. Hahn had a large acquaintance in this county and was greatly respected by all. Four children, all of whom are grown, survive him. They are Mrs. Herman Lienemann and Mrs. Herman Bolling, who reside near Papillion, and Mrs. Ferdinand Lehmann of Omaha. Frank Hahn, of Papillion, is the only surviving son. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Hahn home by Rev. Wm. Huseman, of the German Lutheran church of which the deceased was a member. Interment will be in the Schaab cemetery in Papillion.
