She emigrated to the United States in 1890 with her parents, at the age of 6. On 14 Feb 1907, Johanna married Marinus "Mike" Simonsen, the son of Simon and Emily Simonsen. He was born 14 May 1874 in Falby, Jutland, Denmark and came to Linn county, Iowa in 1892. They moved to a farm south of Exira, Iowa until 1914, then moved into Exira. She emigrated to the United States in 1890 with her parents, at the age of 6. On 14 Feb 1907, Johanna married Marinus "Mike" Simonsen, the son of Simon and Emily Simonsen. He was born 14 May 1874 in Falby, Jutland, Denmark and came to Linn county, Iowa in 1892. They moved to a farm south of Exira, Iowa until 1914, then moved into Exira. Johanna and Mike were the parents of 10 children: 1. Clara, died in infancy; 2. Ethel Simonsen Cavanaugh; 3. Annette Simonsen Brown; 4. Dorothy Simonsen Crum; 5. Helene Simonsen Jensen; 6. Sam Simonsen of Audubon, Iowa; 7. Marie Simonsen Thompson of Audubon, Iowa; 8. Carl Simonsen of Exira; 9. Virginia Simonsen Williams of Exira; and 10. Clarence Simonsen of Des Moines, Iowa. Mike was first a farmer, then began a business of hauling with horses. He hauled lumber from the railroad depot to Green Bay Lumber Company and for the T.H. Godwin Builders (contractors). He also pulled the funeral coach for Nelson & Terhune Funeral Home. In 1922, Mike bought a Model T Ford truck and began a trucking business, still hauling lumber, and eventually cattle. He continued trucking until 1935 when he retired. Mike died in 1943. Johanna lived at the Friendship HOme in Audubon, Iowa for 10 years. She died 12 May 1969.
